Organelles and C4 differentiation

The C4 syndrome is characterized by the division of the photosynthesis process into two distinct cell types: mesophyll and bundle-sheath cells, each housing plastids with complementary functions. The ANR project TOCCATA (2022-2026), led by W. Majeran, is dedicated to investigating the role of the nucleoid in this differentiation. The majority of plastid gene expression occurs within this nucleoprotein complex. Through integrated transcriptomic and proteomic analyses of the nucleoid, the TOCCATA project aims to elucidate the gene regulatory mechanisms governing the establishment of C4 photosynthesis.
