Symposium specialized metabolites: from analysis to engineering

SPS Symposium : July 4-5, 2019

Recent advances in genetics, genomics, metabolomics, systems biology, biochemistry and cell biology have largely contributed to clarify the role of various plant specialized metabolites. They can serve as chemical signals in plant ecosystems and play major roles in defense against stress, plant-microbe interactions and pollinator attraction. Some of these metabolites are important sources of bioactive molecules for human or animal health and nutrition, and for agriculture as biopesticides. The aim of this symposium is to bring together researchers interested in the field of plant specialized metabolites and to provide an update on our understanding of the biology of the producing organs and on various strategies undertaken to better understand or engineer the corresponding biosynthetic pathways.
